This year , the celebration of Raksha Bandhan in 2022 will be held on the 11th of August. The festival is also known as Rakhi Purnima because it occurs on a day of full moon during the month of Saravana. This month known as Saravana is believed to be a very significant and pious month according to the Hindu calendar. Meaning: I am tying on your hand this same Raksha thread, with which the most powerful and generous King Bali himself was bound; O Raksha, don’t go away; don’t go away.

According to some ancient tales, Yamuna the sister of Yamraj,the god of death, tied rakhi to Yamraj and in turn Yamraj told her “Whoever get this pious thread of raksha tied by her sister will be spared from Akaal Mrityu i.e. untimely death”.
Also according to another story Draupadi had tied a piece of cloth on Krishna’s finger to stop the bleeding. In turn Krishna protected her from Cheerharan in Mahabharata.
